About Me
I was born in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic on december 17th, 1994. My parents are also Dominican, Jenny Espaillat (Author of books on financial education) and Jacinto Mendez (Guitarist), so art was already inside me from the time I was in the womb.
At a very young age I already showed inclination for the arts in general, first, I started with painting, since, in school, my only interest was to draw and imitate characters from movies and television, such as Spiderman and the renegade among others.
After showing some aptitude for playing the guitar when I was about 8 years old, my father bought me a guitar for beginners, which I used to play “Happy Birthday” to my mother, on her birthday. This took me to seek training to play the guitar.
From the hands of my teachers, Professor Ruben Gonzalez, (classical guitar teacher) and his wife, Leticia Diaz, (solfeggio teacher) at the Ethos Academy, I got prepared to later attend to the national conservatory.
Since I was a kid, I attended events where I musically accompanied several icons of Dominican culture, such as Luis “el terror” Diaz, Tony Almont “Toque Profundo”, Pavel Nuñez, Etc….
I had the privilege of being taught by the best teachers, again Prof. Ruben Gonzalez “guitar”, Slobodan “cello”.
After a few years, I became a multi-instrumentalist, managing to play 18 instruments between strings and wind, in which I include voice, guitar, violin, violoncello, viola, cuatro, ukulele, saxophone, harmonica, drums and piano among others.
Currently I am a music teacher, composer and arranger. I am also a member of “ASOARTCA” association of street artists. since 2015, I have been collaborating altruistically with the education of underprivileged children completly out of costs, and also, to every passerby who is interested in learning music in Santo Domingo.
I have participated in several musical events and have won awards, scholarships and medals throughout my career. I was named national pride of the year 2017.
I am a very disciplined with my career, I love to read about philosophy, psychology, and esotericism. Also within my routines are meditation and bike riding. I practices music four hours a day, and also likes to do magic tricks in my spare time.
Fortunately admire because of my talent in learning how to play an instrument in record time. In my family, I am loved for my charisma, simplicity, sweetness and witticisms.
